Joaquín Rodrigo (1901-1999), one of the greatest composers from Spain, was born near Valencia. Although blind from an early age, he composed highly original music of great brilliance and passion. Notable works include Cuatro canciones sefardies [Four Sephardic Songs] for voice and guitar and Invocación y Danza [Invocation and Dance] and Junto al Generalife [By the Generalife] for solo guitar. The extraordinary Dos poemas de Juan Ramón Jiménez [Two Poemos by Juan Ramón Jiménez] for flute and voice and the beautiful Coplas del pastor enamorado [Ballads of the Shepherd in Love] for flute and guitar show the tremendous variety found in Rodrigo’s music. Classical Spanish Dance choreography with guitar will feature Tres piezas españolas [Three Spanish Pieces] and Tres canciones españolas [Three Spanish Songs] for dance, voice and guitar will complete this exciting program.
