The Songs of Julio Gómez
The sound disc The Songs of Julio Gómez is a world premiere recording of songs for voice and piano by Spanish composer Julio Gómez (1886-1973), with a sampling of the composers output between 1907 and 1952. True to his nationalist roots, Gómez turned an inward eye in the cultivation of his musical style. With over a hundred songs composed for voice and piano accompaniment that he composed during his lifetime, several of the songs also exist with orchestral accompaniment. The disc selection includes 25 songs which contains several cycles that range from a latent 19th century romanticism to the more ascetic and smore modern language of his last compositions. Recorded at the Sala Manuel de Falla at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid (Spain) With mezzo soprano Anna Tonna and pianist Jorge Robaina.
